WRTA Member: ARC Signs up 360-plus Verified Travel Counselors

ARC Signs Up 360-plus Verified Travel Counselors
http://www.traveltrade.com/news_article.htm?id=2521&p=index.htm
Mon Jul 21 2008, by TravelTrade Staff

The Airlines Reporting Corporation announced that is has signed up more than 360 Verified Travel Consultants (VTC) since the non-ticketing accreditation category was introduced in July 2007. "We are very pleased with these initial results and will continue to present this unique certification alternative to qualified travel professionals," said David Collins, president and CEO of ARC. "Feedback from current VTCs indicates that they appreciate ARC's extensive approval process and appreciate our effort to uphold the security and integrity that has long been associated with ARC," he added.

ARC began accepting applications for new VTC locations on July 18, 2007, as well as transitioning existing ARC-accredited agent locations whose business model had become more aligned with the then-new VTC tier of participation. To date, ARC has received well over 400 applications and since April, applications have come in weekly at a double-digit clip.

ARC said that VTC certification addresses the needs of a significant and growing segment - those agencies that can benefit significantly from ARC's unique systems and services but are not, or are no longer, ARC-accredited for air and rail ticketing. The VTC accreditation process excludes such requirements as a bond or letter of credit associated with ticketing entities and full accreditation, according to a spokesman.

Among other benefits, VTCs are able to generate revenue through service fees by assessing their clients' credit card a fee for travel services rendered; they receive weekly payment using ARC's Interactive Agent Reporting (IAR) system. In addition, a VTC has access to the 6,000-plus commissionable products and services offered through ARC MarketPlace, such as the ARC Travel MasterCard. Recently, the ARC VTC Mark -- a logo -- was introduced to support the brand for this ARC affiliation. The downloadable logos are effective for both print and Web marketing efforts. Complementing the ARC VTC Mark is the ARC check - a new feature that has been added to the ARC Web site that allows anyone to check the VTC status by simply entering the VTC number.

Historic Four-Star Hotel to Open in Lourdes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HISTORIC FOUR-STAR HOTEL TO OPEN IN LOURDES
Lourdes most historic hotel is undergoing extensive renovations
for the 150th anniversary of the apparitions with a May 2008 opening

LOURDES, France (July 2008) – In preparation for the 150th anniversary of the apparitions in Lourdes, the city’s most historic hotel is undergoing a major renovation and transformation. Built in 1896 by Benoîte and Jean Soubirous, St. Bernadette’s brother, the Grand Hotel Moderne is a splendid example of late XIXth century architecture that will offer all modern day comfort in the fantastic “Art Nouveau” ambience designed by Louis Majorelle. The exceptional architecture of the hotel makes it a masterpiece of Lourdes heritage.

The Grand Hôtel Moderne combines charm, elegance, and comfort in the heart of Lourdes. Located within a minute walk of the shrine grounds, the hotel offers easy access to the Grotto and the tourist sites of the city: native house of Bernadette Soubirous, basilicas, fortified castle and museums. The five-story building with its 106 rooms will be entirely renovated with an opening in March 2008. The interior retains its warmth and prestige with wooden floors, wall paneling, circular staircase, marble pillars, and antique furniture. All rooms are spacious, decorated with a great sense of taste (fashionable furniture, bathroom luxuriously appointed in Italian marble and white porcelain), and offer a very high level of comfort (individual heating/cooling controls, high quality bed linen, noise isolation) and safety.

“Our main target is to increase the comfort and service level in our hotel because we think that Lourdes deserves to welcome its pilgrims in the best possible way,” said René Buy, Director of the Grand Hotel Moderne. “We want to become the 4-star reference hotel in Lourdes for the U.S. market.”

Having a look at the amenities, the hotel provides a welcoming bar and a charming restaurant named the “Majorelle,” where guests will enjoy typical French-Italian cuisine in a stylish atmosphere. Two meeting rooms are also available for the organization of gatherings, seminars, religious services, or private parties. Other new amenities and services include electronic door systems, Wifi Internet access in the main Lobby, a luggage room (in case of late check out), a TV room equipped with a huge flat screen, and a second elevator (total capacity of 19 persons with both elevators). The Baroque frontage will be restored to its original splendour when it opened under the direction of the Soubirous family in 1902. The very professional and friendly team will welcome you at the re-opening of the Grand Hôtel Moderne.

“The Grand Hotel Moderne is the number one hotel I would recommend for every tour operator in North America. With its four-star ambiance, facilities, and cuisine, combined with its “across the street” proximity to the Lourdes shrine, the hotel serves as the perfect venue for the discerning American traveler. As a tour leader myself, the Grand Hotel Moderne is where I’ll take my groups.” – Kevin J. Wright, Author & WRTA President

The Grand Hôtel Moderne is currently taking bookings for 2008. Industry Leader Unveils New Vacations & Destinations for 2009, Including a Return to the Holy Land

Website: http://www.travelagentcentral.com/religious-travel/globus-announces-new-religious-travel-vacations-2009

LITTLETON, Colorado – June 24, 2008 – According to Globus’ Religious Travel Study (conducted by Menlo Consulting Group), 4.5 million people have traveled internationally on a religious or faith-based vacation. That number is expected to increase exponentially in the next five years: The same study revealed that by 2012, an additional 9.7 million will have traveled internationally on religious journeys. As one of the first and only large tour operators to embrace faith-based travel, creating a religious travel division in 2004, Globus continues to cater to this growing trend, unveiling both new vacations and destinations in 2009, including a highly anticipated return to Israel.

“Our study revealed that 54 percent of people interested in religious travel consider Israel to be the most desirable vacation destination, while 41 percent believe Italy is,” said Mike Schields, director of group sales and emerging markets for the Globus family of brands. “In 2009, we’re giving travelers new opportunities to experience their faiths first-hand in these coveted destinations with Journey through the Holy Land and Vatican, Assisi & Southern Italy – with extension to Medjugorje (Mostar), a famous town where the Virgin Mary has historically appeared.”

In addition, having witnessed three consecutive years of increased bookings on its religious vacations, Globus’ most popular faith-based packages include: Footsteps of Apostle Paul, Marian Shrines of Europe, Grand Catholic Italy and Lourdes & Shrines of France.

“Nearly 75 percent of people interested in religious vacations want to delve deeper into their faiths with others who share their passions and interests by traveling as part of an escorted tour group,” said Schields. “Most are also looking for vacations ranging from five to 14 days, filled with a balance of both religious and non-religious exploration, such as shopping and entertainment, as well as first-class service and amenities. With more than 80 years of experience in perfecting vacations, we’re giving this burgeoning group of travelers exactly what they want.”
